I've been trying to open a port on my router all day and can't see to get it to work. Here's my setup:

    My Internet Protocol Version 4:

    IP Address: 192.168.1.150
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.1.1

    Prefered DNS Server: 209.18.47.61
    Alternate DNS Server: 209.18.47.62

    Router Settings:

    Block Internet Request Unchecked
Port Range: 11700 - 1170 BOTH IP 192.168.1.150 Enable Checked

Whenever I run the Port Check it says it can't ping it and times out.

    I'm stumped!

you can't ping a port., you can transfer files through a port with the machine being unpingable. I think you might be confusing some terms? What application isnt' working or has requested you open ports.

The program PFPortChecker in the results say: Ping Result - We Were Able To Ping Your Router and Port Check Result - Your port is not open or not reachable.

As for the software, I'd rather learn to do this manually.

I'm not seal sure where to go from here as the tutorials I've done are pretty basic yet something seems to be stopping it. I have BitDefender 2011 Firewall and Real Time Protection currently disabled, and it has a rule for in the firewall settings.

I've set up a static IP but the main page of my router still says Automatic DHCP. Should I change that drop down to Static maybe? However, it asks me to input more IP info.

I don't think you can get a static IP with a consumer internet package. You need to have a business account. I realize all the port forwarding guides say set up a static IP but I don't believe it is possible for residential customers.

You are following this guide: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54GL/Utorrent.htm

You just tick the appropriate boxes and the last box just include a name and then the same port number in both boxes and tick enable. Try a different port such as 59888.

Simple Port Forwarding is not totally automatic, but it does help by insuring the right info is plugged in.

Fixed it. All my settings were fine but my Motorola Surboard Modem has a built in modem and I had to disable some settings there in order to get it to act as a "Bridge" and behave like a modem instead of a router.

    UPDATE:

Still a strange thing happening. If I reboot my computer and go to "canyouseeme.org" or any other site that scans the ports, it will fail and say the port is closed.

However, if I then run a program that that is assigned to that port (say uTorrent for example), if I rescan it on those sites with the app running it does successfuly detect the ports is now open and not being blocked.

    Why the two different results?

When you set up the port forwarding did you allow it for a specific program? You checked "canyouseeme.org" via a browser and maybe the port is only open for uTorrent...
