Can't read dvd-roms, help please

Hi,

I have an asus laptop with a toshiba sd-r2512 cd/dvd-rom. My problem is that I can't read dvd-roms with it... I can read dvds (movies), music cds, data cds, etc. but the only thing I can't read is dvd-rom (actually I just tryed games and data dvds) my computer just act like if there were no cd in the slot.

So if you can help me it would be great thanks.

I can't read Dvds, but just data and games... I can read movies...

 

Put a dvd in that it previously couldnt read, double click my computer/double click the dvd drive, what comes up?

 

Nothing, it just do the same as if there were no cd in at all

 

Is it you can't play movies, but can see data?

Can you play movies?

Can you see data on CD formated discs, but not DVD formated discs?

Sounds similar to the Sony rootkit issue we heard about.

 

Ok i remake all my statement (sorry i'm french and i'm not fullu bilingual)


I can read formated cds of everything (data, music, etc), I can read dvd movies, but that's it.. I can't read dvd formated data disc and the game i just bought today (heroes of might and magic 5) which is on dvd-rom.

 

OK, the DVD ROM function isn't working, but the DVD player is, as is the CD functions.

I have to admit it stumps me, but I'm going to throw out some ideas. Do you have the DMA access turned on? Right click My Computer, go to device manager, click properties, look up the DVD drive, and see if it is on or off.

Most DVD players require DMA on, but Win98 default is DMA off, don't know about XP yet.
