    Guys,

    I have a Windows 7 system (64 bit).

I started having problems with Google Chrome not working. I got the "aw snap" message everywhere I tried to go.

The recycle bin won't empty unless I go to safemode.

CCleaner hangs on the analyze phase.

I have tried running and installing SAS. Malware bytes...either they won't install at all or the won't run. I had SAS loaded and when I click "scan" it vanished. It looked like part of the process for it was running, but no interface.

Microsoft Security Essentials won't update and won't reinstall. It's not letting me install the last few critical patches either. I have Avast on here and have run it on boot and in safe mode. It doesn't find anything.

I do have a hijack this log...

    • What about Combofix?
    • What about MGTools?
    • Did you also test whether scans can be run in safe boot mode?
So you have two antivirus installed? If so, one has to go.

I'll be back near the computer Monday afternoon and I'll try and run the other tools. I got discouraged when the first two wouldn't run.

Which anti-virus program do you recommend I delete? MC Security Essentials?

OK. I was able to run Combofix. I wasn't able to remove Microsoft Security Essentials, the uninstall program hung, which has been happening. So you will see the program wasn't uninstalled. I tried to disable it as well as Avast.

I tried to download MGtools and that download hung as well.

I have been having issues when I have one of the tools listed in a folder and I want to rename it or copy it. It keeps coming up with a message about Adobe Version Que not being the right version and it locks me out from taking any action in those folders. The Adobe program is on my computer, but wasn't in any of those files.

    Here's the Combofix log.

    Thanks,

    Ed

Try downloading MGTools to a different computer and transfer via USB thumb drive or CD.

OK. I had to run MGTools from the thumb drive, but it seems to have gathered info from C: I get the same message about Adobe Version Cue everytime I try and right click and copy one of the tool files.

    Here's the MGTools logs.

I am not finding any malware in your logs. I suggest you post in the software forum for additional assistance.

    You might try doing this:
    Microsoft Fix-it

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

    Tim,

Thanks for taking a look for me. I tried to run Microsoft Fixit. It looks like a great idea but they have, for now, closed the Beta to Win7 users.

I'll post up in the software forums and see what I get. This is just a little strange that most of the security programs won't run...

Thanks Tim. I'm actually getting through some of it. I have an Adobe engineer reloading my Creative Suite now. It was one of the programs that was hanging things up. He did just finish and deleted all of my presets, preferences and custom stuff...I have a few adjectives I'd like to use, but I'll refrain.
