Can't run Cntrl Panel apps, access Mj Geeks or use HJT etc.

It is going to be difficult since you cannot not run many things, but let's see what we can do.

Try renaming hijackthis.exe to myhjt.com
Then try to run myhjt.com. If this works attach a log, if it doe not work. Try running it as follows. BUT NOTE: For the below to work! You must have HijackThis (myhjt.com) installed in the C:\Program Files\HJT folder as specified in the script.

Copy the below quoted text into a new notepad document.
Click File> Save as... and change Save as type to all files, set the File name to runhjt.bat and save it to your Desktop.

Now execute runhjt.bat by double clicking on it. A new HJT log will come up. The file is already save in the folder where HJT is run from. This should be C:\Program Files\HJT if you followed our directions for installing HJT. Attach this log. HJT is also still running minimized. Double click on it and continue to do the following:

Click the Config button on the lower right.

• Click Misc Tools button
• Click Open Uninstall Manager
• Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt)
• Click Save, to save it to a file where you can find it.
• Attach the uninstall_list.txt file to your next message.

 

Try booting into safe mode and running the procedure! Make sure you run nothing else except this.

Also another thing that can be tried in both normal boot mode and in safe mode is:

• first open a command prompt window
• then run Task Manager (assuming it runs - it may not)
• in the Process list of task manager locate explore.exe and right click on it and select End Process. This will kill your Desktop and icons...etc will disappear. It is just temporary. Don't panic.
• now run the runhjt.bat file and save the log if it runs.
• then back in Task Manager, click File, New Task (Run...) and enter explorer.exe This will bring back your Desktop.

If this worked, upload the HJT log.
