Hi. I have tried to set up a home network with 2 computers, have been able to find the computer names however have not been able to access the other. this is the error message i am seeing.

".....is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

the network path is not found"

i am using a lynksys WRT54G router, windows xp pro on the notebook, xp home on the desktop and i am trying to use the router to print and file share, and use the internet. i am able to use the internet from both computers. i have sp2 installed on both computers. during my trial and error attempts i disabled the sp2 firewalls on both computers but nothing happend. i have enabled print and file sharing for both computers and still nothing. a google search found someone who had the same problem, he was using zone alarm and configured that and all was well. there was however a reply in the other forum regarding the password/user access on one of the computers... on the note book i need to enter a password before i see the windows screen, but not by pressing ctrl alt del. on the desktop you dont need to enter a password. i have called linksys and they refuse to help. so can anyone help, or should i just call someone in?

Had a similar problem once and found that one of the windows services "server" was disabled on one machine.

lets say your want to share program files in c drive

double click c drive, click tools , click folder options, click veiw tab, scroll all the way to bottom, uncheck "use simple file sharing" , click ok , right click program files, click properties, click sharing tab, and click share this folder, click permissions and set to full. then go to security and set the people you want to have full access.

If you have a router working with the DHCP functionality enabled then you wont have to worry about the IP, subnet related settings:
Like IronMan mentioned make sure there is a folder/drive configured for sharing.
If you can see the other PCs on the network but cannot access them that means:
A- Access/security settings are not correct.
B- No folder/drive is configured for sharing.
C- Some sort of a security program or firewall is blocking it (Windows Firewall, Zonealarm, HW Firewall, etc.)

If you couldn't see the other computers/nodes in the Network Neighborhood that I'd advise checking the applicable domain/workgroup settings on 'Computer Name' tab of 'System Properties' panel.

    GOT XP?
Lol....it is the very last option on the list on the 'VIEW' tab.
If it is really not there then I am guessing either manually or by using a 3rd party program it got removed...
