Can't "show hidden files/folders"

    From tools/folder options, when I click the 'view' tab and select 'show hidden files and folders', and uncheck 'Hide protected OS files (Recommended)', click apply and OK, THE CHANGES REVERT BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL STATUS. I cannot unhide my application data which I am trying to access. HELP!

    A quick workaround:

    Start>Run type %appdata% in the box and hit ok.

    It will open the application data folder in a window.
