Cd-rw & DVD -ROM registry problem

    Just got done running thru the malware removal. All is good there. My pc is recognizing my 2 drives, but in the device status window, I get "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks. I used the second method for XP and it worked. Both drives now show in explorer. On to the next step though. My dvd drive won't stay closed.

    Well as I know your malware free from the thread you been working in with TimW, I wont suggest that as a cause as its a common one and a prank.

    So check the open close button for being jammed, with PC off, unplug and replug in the power and IDE cables, even swap out the IDE cable with a new one.
