CD/RW Writes But Does Not Read

Now THIS is an odd one.....

A friend and I built a PC for another friend.
We bought 2 of everything to build 2.
Got the other one almost complete and noticed had bad HD so had to replace.
In the meantime, the CD-RW on the one we sold to the friend never worked so we pulled the (also new) CD-RW out of the unfinished one and exhanged with him.
Now he's having problems with this one.
While the other one didn't read or write, this one writes (using Nero) but does not then read what it wrote. It also does not read any CD placed in Drive.
Open Windows Explorer and you can click on the drive (meaning there is a CD in it) but it looks blank AND at some point referenced that the CD was blank (dont recall when I saw that).
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Have you tried going to the Benq site to see if there's a possible firmware/driver upgrade for the drive(s) to work properly in XP?

Went to Benq site, d/l drivers, installed
BOOM
immediately read the CD
