i recently purchased a Dell inspiron 8100 laptop:p3 866mghz, 256ram,w/around a 40 gig HD. Problem? i neither of my cdrom drives seem to be able to read any discs i put in them. I hear the cd spinning but nothing displays and when i click on the drives it says "Please insert a disk into Drive E" i don't think its a hardware issue what do you guys/gals think?

I think its a hardware issue. Bad drive or cd's your using are incompatible, which is unlikely if you tried multiples. Wish you had a way to swap the drive, desktop computers are so much easier for this reason. Odds are if Windows sees the drive properly and it wont read CD's, its a dead CD drive.

Damn it's been a super long time since i've been in here. Thank you for that reply way back. It definitely was a dead drive. I purchased a new one and since then it has worked like a dream.
