    Hi,

I have just completed the Windows XP cleaning procedure (see logs attached), but have not fixed the problem.

    The Problem:
When I search using any search engine in any browser, The results come up, but the links have been replaced with affiliate shopping sites or adsense search sites. So now I cant search the internet at all. Please see screen shots attached.

During the clean-up process, one piece of malware which kept being found was adware.mywebsearch 'fun web products'.

The problem only started a few days ago and could have come from this site: banskosunski.com - the summer section (i remember a warning from avast)

I have now exhausted all steps on your 'Read Me' clean up procedure. Log files attached.

    PLEASE HELP

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Dave

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You are out of date with your version of SUPERAntiSpyware.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.
You are also out of date with the definitions for Malwarebytes, run it and update to the current database and run a new scan with it too. Attach the new log.
Also please attach the first log from SUPERAntiSpyware. You attached a 3rd scan which did not show the earlier problems. The log I want is this one:
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Ron Toomey\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\"
    28 Dec 2008 4351 "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 12-28-2008 - 23-07-57.log"
What are the below folders from/for?
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\"
    2E9170~1 29 Jan 2006 "2e91705b529331a7755646d5603452"

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O16 - DPF: {2646205B-878C-11D1-B07C-0000C040BCDB} (NSIEMisc Class) - file://D:\HD\nskey.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now goto this link Using MGtools and download the new version of MGtools.exe using the black bold print link in the first sentence.

Run MGtools.exe then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

If still having the same problems, answer the below questions:
    • which browsers are you using and what add-ons do they have?
    • does it happen in safe boot mode?
