Change task priority

Is there a way to automatically set the task priority for a particular task?

I have some programs I want to always run at a lower priority level. Currently, I go into task manager, select the task, and change it's priority. Is there a way to have those programs always run at a different priority, without having to go into task manager and set it?

This article explains how to have any Windows (XP/2000) task or program run in various priority settings by default.

Most tasks default to "Normal" base priority. "Windows Task Manager" runs in "High" base priority by default. Also, "Windows Task Manager" is how to manually set already executing tasks to different priority settings. But this is a pain if you have to do this all the time. Typically, if you ever want to change a task's default priority setting, you will probably want to set it to a lower priority, either "BelowNormal" or "Low".

How To Run Tasks in Low Priority Automatically in Windows XP:

Create a copy of the icon of the task. This is a precaution; In case you ruin the icon, you will still have the original. From herein, we are dealing with the new copy of the icon in question.

Right-click the icon of task, "Properties", "Shortcut", "Target:"

I will use Adobe Photoshop as an example.

Modify as follows...

But first, pay special attention to the quotes as you have to use quotation marks. So, I highlighted the text in red instead of quoting it inside confusing quotation marks. You have to use the quotation marks shown below. If you see red quotes, use them!

Change:

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\Photoshp.exe"

To:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "Adobe Photoshop" /belownormal "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\Photoshp.exe"

Done!

Helpful note: The red-colored text section of both are the same.
