Another smooth clean up procedure that was easy to follow.

Attached is the Combofix.log (log.txt) and the MGlogs.zip. I did not attached the AVG Antispyware log as it came up "No report available". I assume that was due to being clean? Can run it again if you want me to.

With combofix, a message popped up stating "Failed and needs to close", so I clicked OK, but it didn't close and ran normally. Again, if you don't feel satisfied with this I can run through again.

Loved the simplicity of disabling UAC and re-enabling.

    Thanks Lev!

    That's good news! ;)

This is not expected! Could you just try running ComboFix again and let me know if this always happens? Thanks! :)

Sure thing, when I get in to work tomorrow. I understand we had a server crash during last night and everyone's computers were being weird today, so it might be totally irrelevant to the R&R itself. Will keep you posted.

Thanks! ComboFix is in its infancy state as far as Vista is concerned so there could be potential issues here and there. But I have seen it run without issue on several Vista systems already.

So rebooted and ran combofix again, nothing else open. This is where the C:\ screen stopped...

...and this is the error message pop up that appeared...

However, once again, when I clicked Close Program the C:\ continued all way through the combofix execution.

So I'm like a dog with a bone with this stuff, so I ran it again after another reboot, and this is what I got this time....

Let me know what else you want me to do here Chas - happy to test stuff :)

Hmmm! I'll have to have Halo retest ComboFix on his Vista system to see if something has changed in ComboFix. In the meantime could you try disabling UAC before running ComboFix to see if there is any change. Also try using the Run As Admin option on ComboFix.exe and see what happens.

So I ran it with UAC disabled and Run As Administrator, with exactly the same results as the first scenario I gave you in post #5 for both methods.

So as I'm closing windows to combofix after running as below, the following window pops up, which is a first.

So I went with it and ran Reinstall using recommended settings, which went fine, and then I ran Combofix again, which came up with a new error as below.

    Chas,

It ran fine for me in having UAC on and running the app as Admin, but this time I did get the below error bit only when I closed the log screen page, ran it 3 times to check and same screen showed each time, but the app ran.

Have they updated combofix since last time we used it, which was over a month ago, plus its also possible that some updates to Vista coming along now could cause these apps to go funny due to Vista's security. Could also be a problem with a 3rd party security app thats live scanning?

Good call on updates possibility Halo, thanks - FWIW I did downloaded the essential security updates (only) prior to using combofix, so could be a factor in causing these errors.

    Thanks Halo!

Off course it is possible that ComboFix has updated. Like any of the tools for malware removal, it upates frequently.

Do you have a log file from the last time you ran it and posted that it ran okay in the Malware Fighters forum? Check the date at the top of the file which shows the version. You can see what Lev ran in her attached file:
