I tried the procedure on my personal PC. Worked well.

I had picked up a trojan (ldpinch) that my regular procedures and software (Spy Scanner by Webroot both in safe and normal modes) wouldn't touch, so I thought this would be a good live test. Spy Scanner seemed it was getting rid of it, but it came back after a reboot into regular mode, no matter what I did.

Tis gone, and gone well. I also use this hard drive to store backups of around 6 other computers over the years, nothing fancy, just the entire drive of the other computer dumped into a subdirectory. Those were cleaned as well, some of these backups are around 15 years old.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Thanks for checking out the process on Win XP.

I'm almost ready to post a new version of the MGtools program geared towards Win9x and ME. I just have a few things to finish off and I'll send you a PM when it is ready for testing. Thanks again.

Just a suggestion, low priority. You might, in a separate post, explain what each program does. Maybe not, because there is always some helpfull Joe who becomes an expert afterwards, but I was pretty curious what was happening while it was happening.

The instructions were clear, concise, and very well done. Thanks!

The first thing I did was download all the software on a different computer and put it on a CD.

Actually some are explained on their respective download pages. The only ones that could use a little exlanation are ComboFix and MGtools. The Using MGtools page explains a little bit of what MGtools does but not really in detail. It would be rather difficult to give a clear description of everythng that ComboFix and MGtools do especially since they are in constant evolution just like malware is. I'll think about it though! Thanks for the suggestion.
