Clone a HDD

My neighbor gave me a 500GB SATA HDD, to replace my 160GB IDE HDD. What's the best way to clone my drive into it?

I know this is kind of an obvious question but does your motherboard support SATA?

 

I wound up using gparted. After years of using it I never knew that it had partition copying functionality.

And tgell, is that question a joke? x.x clearly my board supports SATA if I'm using a hdd with a SATA interface.

 

Sorry, wasn't intended to be a joke. Just noticed your post number. Hard to tell what experience a poster has on a first post. The original drive was a 160 GB IDE. So I thought there may be a possibility the motherboard was IDE only. And yes Gparted is a great piece of software. It can even partition with a 2048 sector offset.
