I have cloned my C drive 40 gig to my D drive 200 gig. Now when I change the cables, and jumpers over to make my C become D and D become C, On boot I get error Stop ox00000007b check for virus etc. I have reformatted the 200 gig drive, and cloned again and still I can't get past the boot. I change the cables back over and my 40 gig drive now boots ok, I can see the 200gig D with explorer and it looks a mirror image of my C drive. Is there anything that I can check in the registry? any help would be apprieciated:confused:

Your description makes it look like you're getting the error message before the OS loads -- if so, editing the Registry isn't likely to help.

I suspect that you have virus protection enabled in your BIOS. When it sees a different drive as the primary master, all it knows is the boot record on the primary master has changed -- which is what some viruses do.

Try disabling virus protection in your BIOS when you set up the 200GB drive as your primary master/boot drive.

I don't think its that simple to just clone and switch cables for your 200GB drive to be the boot drive. Anyway, try checking the boot path first. Reconnect your 40GB back as your master and 200GB as slave and then go to: Right click My Computer for properties - go to advance tab - in the "startup and recovery" click settings - in the startup section click edit.

If you see just one line that says like "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)..." then your Comp only recognizes Windows is installed on one harddrive, which is the one you are currently using.

If so, then you might need to reinstall/update Windows on your 200GB so that it would be recognized to boot.

Hi Robm, My BIOS Is American Megatrends P160 29/01/2004, I didn't see in any of the options any mention of virus protection.I have been using this method of backup for quite a long time, what I have is four 200gig hard drives C,D and two spares, one spare is used to back up my programs, the other is used to backup my data. The machine is only used for music ie Cubase SX3.1 The virus protection got me thinking, I have over the past two weeks installed BTYahoo online protection, this includes Norton antivirus, Norton sypware and Norton Firewall. You're bang on with the dos theory I got a bit bogged down, I get to the opening windows screen ie the blue bar starts to run and then the blue screen. What I'm going to try is disabling all the online protection and then ghost C to my spare drive that I connect as the D drive, its worked for a good number of years doing it that way, and see how I get on. I will post the results. and thanks to cwazykid for your assistance, by the way,my computer, right click, advance on the general page I don't have a startup and recovery.maybe I'm not doing it right she cried

have you changed your drive settings from secondary volume to primary one? may be it causes the error.

Plaphon what do you mean by changing the drive settings. As I have stated above in my reply to Robm, I have been using this method of cloning my C and D drives for a good number of years without changing any settings. I use Ghost 2003, put my backup drive to slave change the cable hit clone job done. I think it has something to do with Norton Antivirus.I have disabled all protection that comes with BTYahoo online protection without any luck, so I think I'm going to uninstall all the protection, I'm trying not to as it was a git to install an activate.
