Combofix.exe as virus

I’ve done the “basic computer maintenance everyone should do”.
I’m working on “Read & Run me First.Malware removal guide".
I’m now in the middle of “Windows XP Cleaning Procedure”.

After downloading combofix.exe & saving it to my desktop, my AVG scan ran. The scan said combofix.exe is a virus and moved it to the virus vault.

This is not a “false indication” because the combofix.exe duplicated and renamed some of my program files, after which I fixed them. There was no further damage.

What shall I do now since combofix.exe is in the virus vault?
    1. Shall I continue the XP Cleaning Procedure without it?
    2. Or should I instruct AVG to ignore combofix.exe? And then re-download combofix.exe to the desktop and continue with “Read & Run, etc."?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
Yes it is a false positive which is one of the many reasons why the instructions say to disable protection programs before using various tools including ComboFix.

If you have malware problems that you need our help with then you need to follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME. If you don't have malware problems then you don't need to run the READ & RUN ME.
