Hello! Pardon my asking for assistance, but after wrestling with this for days on my father's computer, I'm finally admitting I need help in helping him. I've been reading several threads for people with the same problem, so I hope some kind individual who knows how to make a custom scan/fix from the logs could lend me a moment of their time. :)

The major symptom is that Combofix always sees the rootkit, attempts to fix, reboots, and finishes. Then when run again, it sees the same Zeroaccess rootkit. I'm a bit worried the rootkit's damaging stuff, a few days ago the ComboFix logs listed my antispyware, antivirus, and firewall up top...now it's only listing my antivirus. Tonight I went strictly by MajorGeeks' sticky thread, "Read and Run Me First Malware Removal Guide" thread. RogueKiller, Malwarebytes, and HitmanPro found nothing, so I'm enclosing the logs that I've seen others with the same problem enclose (MGtools, ComboFix, and TDSSKiller), if I missed any that you need please let me know. Thank you again in advance!

PS: TDSSKiller found some objects, but I wasn't sure if changing them was the right thing to do, so I pressed "skip" on all for now, until instructed to do otherwise. Thanks again. :)

Re run TDSSKiller and have it fix this only that you previously skipped.

Re run again and attach log.

Please attach the HitmanPro and RogueKiller logs regardless. ;)

My apologies for the delay, I had trouble finding a way to run FRST from a recovery environment. My dad's computer is running XP...with no "System Recovery Options" available, only the predecessor "Repair Console," with no EXE execution possible. I finally figured out I could use UBCD4WIN to run FRST from the USB and create the necessary log.

I've deleted the TDSSKiller item you indicated, and enclosed are all of the requested logs...thanks again for the assistance!

    I hope this works.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

    Now attempt to boot normally.

    -------------------------------

Now run FRST again - no fix - just a scan, and attach the log.

You're a genius Kestrel13, I think it worked! Enclosed are the requested logs, plus the log for a ComboFix scan I ran just afterwards, to see if it gave me the "Zeroaccess" warning I used to get continually...happily, it didn't! The only odd thing I see is that ComboFix still isn't listing my firewall or antispyware at the top of the log like it used to, beside the antivirus. What's your professional opinion, is dad's desktop Zeroaccess/Sirefef-free? :D

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Everything running smoothly? Ready for final steps?

    You're welcome Kathleen, safe surfing!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Cleanup complete...thanks again for all your help, Kestrel13! (^_^)
