Are there any compression softwares, i.e., MPEG-4, that I may use to compress a full length movie file (1hr 30min) onto an 80min 700MB CD-R? The file has already been downloaded to my HARD DRIVE. I will burn the file to the CD-R using my CD-WRITER and Nero Burning Software.

I do this all of the time, however, I am seeking software to help me with the larger movie files. If MPEG-4 is good, which version do I need to use?

DivX is the way to go for the best compression vs image quality results. You can get more info on it here:

You can get three different DivX programs here:

The first two offer trial offers, the third is a free download, but isn't quite as good as the others (of course), and needs to be used with 3rd party software to compress video, rather than just watch it. The other two are well worth the small amount of money.

If you use VirtualDub and GraphEdit you can compress both the video and the sountrack :)
