Computer Freezes / Sudden Crash

This post is for info only, I do not have a problem now. I am putting this under software, as I originally thought it was just s/w.

My computer started doing two things: suddenly freezing, no mouse, no Task Manager, had to be restarted with power off and on; second, it would sometimes simply crash (no blue screen) and sometimes restart.

With the complexity of XP, I thought there might be some software nasty... virus or maybe a IRQ conflict or whatever... after some considerable time, I found that the problem went away when I disabled my WiFi (Marvell Yukon on an Asus m/board). Further investigation led me to keep that WiFi disabled, and install a USB WiFi instead. My problems were solved, and I have now had a week with no problems.

There was no info in the System or App logs, presumably the XP O/S doesnt get a chance to run anything, as no crash dump either.

I hope this may save someone else a lot of time, if they have a similar problem.
