   I'll be working on it and then it will freeze requiring a reboot. This is with windows XP. Each time it reboots it goes into check file sysyem (DOS mode). "Can not open volume for direct access. Autochk failed due to recently installed software program."

   Start uninstalling recently installed programs. Do one program at a time and reboot after each uninstall until the computer is back to normal.
