I got a windows xp sp2 dell computer. I was going to go buy a new mouse real soon. I was wondering can't I use a different type of computer mouse on mine? Or does it have to be a dell computer mouse? Walmart for mouses dont have anything dell related at the store, and most of them are wireless which I don't want.

A mouse is a mouse by whatever the name.
There are cordless ones and USB ones also.
I'm using a Dell on my HP machine.

If it comes with a disk, you do not need to load the software for the mouse to work. (I use Logitech mice and have not loaded the software for several years because it keeps getting more bloated and invasive).
