I have tried McAfee, AdAware, Spybot, etc to no effect. My computer still has problem booting using Win98. Attached is my HJT log. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks. Rich

    Welcome to MGs!

Your message is rather confusing. If your computer will not boot, how are you getting a HijackThis log and how are you running McAfee and Spybot! It would seem that your message is worded incorrectly. What is your real problem?

Note: Your HJT version has not been used for over 2 years.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

I have done the steps to analyze my computer to search for ad/spy ware. Attached is my HJT log. I get "exception errors" twice while turning on my computer then ctr_alt_del to restart. I can override the errors by clicking on a program. I asked a friend and he said I have a program that is screwing things up. If you have any ideas, it would be appreciated.

    Thanks. Rich

Please read and follow the directions in my previous message. You have not followed them. Do not post anymore HijackThis logs until you have followed ALL the directions.

Sorry, which step did I miss? I thought I did them all...

    Thanks for your assistance, Rich

Looks like just about all of them.

I do not see Spybot installed with the SDhelper function as per the READ ME.

You did not run CounterSpy and attach the log.

You did not do any of step 6.

You did not do any of step 7 and as a result this is the second time I am saying, your HJT version is more than two years out of date.

Did you skip anything else? Do you have ALL updates and are you running the proper versions of all software? Since you HJT version is so far out of date, I have to wonder about the other tools.

It would also be nice to know exactly what your problem is. I asked this in my first message.

I thought I did all of the steps. I'm sorry that I didn't. I will go and recheck the steps and do them all. Techsupport.com thinks that since my machine is old that I should just junk it because of the error messages on booting. What do you think?

    Thanks. Rich

You did not tell us about any error messages! All you said is your computer has a problem booting using Win98, which as I said before made no sense since you are obviously using it.

Okay, sorry again. I will shut my computer down and tell you the messages I am getting.

    Thanks as always. Rich

Make sure you provide the EXACT error message (word for word).

But if you are looking for help in the Malware Forum, you need to complete the instructions in the READ & RUN ME sticky.

It must have been the Cclean that did it because my computer doesn't do it anymore. Sorry to have bothered you. Rich

I shut down about three times with no problems. However, I have done the same thing before and had the same booting prolbem. Do you want to know the messages that I get? Rich

I turned on my computer again tonight and got:
" The volume that was removed had open files on it. Next time please check first to see if the can be removed. Press any key to continue.
    I press key and get:
File system mounted on the volume had data that needed to be flushed. Some data on the volume was lost. Next time please check to see if the volume can really be received. Press any key to continue.
    I press key and get:
A fatal exeption 0E has occurred @ 018F:BFF9DFFF. Current application will be terminated. Press Ctl_Alt_Del to restart. You will lose any unsolved info. Press any key to continue".
After this, I reset my computer. Any ideas why this is happening since there are no viruses?

    Thanks. Rich
