Sometimes when I choose the "shutdown option" with windows xp, it restarts on it's own. Why is this?

Also the time on my clock is always changing.
    Any suggestions.

Regarding the rebooting during shutdown, see if THIS or THIS resolves it.

As far as the clock, if it's not keeping accurate time, it could be the motherboard backup battery needs replacing.

XP automatically synchronises the time via an Internet server, but there should only be a couple of minutes difference.
