    Hi,
I followed all the instructions for basic spyware, trojan and virus removal but my computer is still infected with something--my biggest problem is the cursor moving by itself and this of course makes it impossible to perform basic functions. In fact I just tried to delete something from the last sentence and couldn't as the computer is clearly under someone else's control!

I'm running trojanscan now but really need to get this problem resolved as quickly as possible, especially since I'm worried about what type of information is being accessed.

    Please help!
    Lisa

Sometimes when a mouse cursor peridically jumps all over the place and it the mouse even seems to be clicking, it is a defective mouse. Try changing the mouse and see what happens. If that does not help, follow the steps below.

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Thanks--here's the HJT log. I don't think the mouse is the problem--my laptop also makes a strange beeping noise when I turn it on and it's almost as if someone else is selecting other documents/programs when I try to open things.

Before continuing, you must choose which antivirus application you want to have and uninstall the others. Only one AV should be used on your PC.

After doing what I said in message #4, follow the steps below.

Goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall P2P Networking.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{20EC3D2D-33C1-4C9D-BC37-C2D500688DA2} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - SOFTWARE - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Exit HijackThis and reboot into safe mode.
Use Windows Explorer to locate and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking <--- the whole folder

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Thank you so much! It appears the problem has been fixed--though after I deleted the P2P networking through control panel I couldn't find any of the P2P files in the HJT log or through Windows Explorer--I'm assuming because they were already gone.

Anyway, here's my new log. Please let me know if there's still more that needs to be fixed.

    Thanks!

Looks better but it appears that McAfee did not cleanup after itself when you uninstalled. (or maybe you just need another reboot). The below lines are from McAfee:

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msci] C:\DOCUME~1\Lisa\LOCALS~1\Temp\2005815172711_mcinfo.exe /insfin
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cleanup] C:\DOCUME~1\Lisa\LOCALS~1\Temp\2005815172712_mcappins.exe /v=3 /cleanup

If they are still present after a reboot, have HJT file those lines. After this you should be clean. To help keep you that way, see the below thread:

I got rid of the McAfee files.
    Thanks again for your help!
