computer reboots when wireless usb adapter is connected

    when a netgear usb wireless adapter is plugged in the computer goes into an endless reboot cycle. everything has worked fine for a year. then this started.
    the computer was cleaned up of some moderate virus/spyware problems and now is clean but the reboot issue remains. it does this on all 4 usb ports but my usb mouse and other ubs devices work fine. anyone with possible solutions? thanks

    equipment involved

    emachines T1742
    wireless router: linksys BEFW 11S4
    wireless usb adapter: netgear MA111

    un-plug all USB devices apart from the necassary key&mouse and try the netgear again.

    are you also fully upto date with OS updates and Netgear USB drivers?

    care to elaborate, I would imagine the original poster would like to know what the issues are and if there is a fix?

    As far as I know there probably is no fix. From what I've read on the web ma111v1 has bugs.

    yes the MA111 has issues with XP. mostly related to SP2. i found some beta drivers for the version i have (v1) and it now works fine. thanks all for your help.
