Computer seems fine but would love a more informed opinion

    Hello,

First, thanks so much to the MajorGeeks people for doing this. I've followed the steps in the cleaning instructions post and it appears to have helped clean up some infection on this computer (annoying pop-ups - mostly for anti-virus software & I initially was unable to install Malwarebytes).

I just have a nagging suspicion that the computer still isn't completely clean. On startup, it appears that the McAfee software (VirusScan & Email/IM protection) is temporarily completely disabled but then if I do nothing, it appears to be working fine. (I have uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee. McAfee Virtual Technician finds no errors but the only program it appears to detect is SiteAdvisor. The McAfee version I have is partnered with Gateway and I read somewhere that MVT often misses partner-affiliated copies of software.)

Also, I was unable to install ComboFix so I skipped that step like the instructions said but is being unable to install that program a bad sign?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could take a look at the files I have and give me their opinion on whether this computer is clean. Also, any idea why McAfee is behaving that way? Thanks so much.

The logs attached are for MBAM, RootRepeal, and MGTools. Like I mentioned, I was unable to install ComboFix and SuperAntiSpyware found no problems and I didn't see any option to save a log (program version 4.31.1000 & definition database version core: 4410; trace: 2243).

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You are not having malware problems. Your logs are clean. The only problem you have is that you don't have enough memory to properly run Win XP SP3 and everything else you are running especially McAfee. You logs show the below
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 96.95 MB
The minimum amount of memory we suggest for Win XP is 1 GB which is twice what you have. And 2 GB is really a much better idea. Having only 96.95 MB free is probably slowing down your startup and all other operations which is why McAfee is slow in getting protection in place.

In addition you have other unnecessary software running that are only wasting resources. Like Ad-Aware and the software you allowed your ISP to install. You should uninstall the below:

    Ad-Aware
    Verizon Online DSL
    Verizon Online Help and Support

Ah, that will have to wait until the next time I visit my parents. Thanks so much for the feedback! Always reassuring to hear from an expert.
