    Can anyone please help...

My computer freezes soon after i turn it on at the point where it tells me to hit 'del' to enter bios. I cannot enter the bios nor do anything else and the computer never progresses beyond this point. I have tried a PS2 keyboard and reseting the bios battery jumper thing. I have removed all hardware except for ram, psu, processor and graphics card.

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks.

the power supply is about 9 months old. Is 420W Tagan. Why do you think its the psu and not the mobo?

    Thanks for ur reply

it's because it's what you tell right at the begginnig the computer can't do nothing so most of the time it's a power supply issue but has you said it could be your mobo but i am pretty shure it's your PSU. I have seen PSU
give out just after 6 months so......

Thank you very much for your advice. I will try another psu before i go through the hassle of returning my mobo.

    Thanks again

If your comp has 2 sticks of ram or more, try taking one out and run it one stick at a time and see if it works.

check the heatsink and processor for signs of overheating. or a general lack of thermal paste. This is of course after you remove the ram sticks one at a time to see if you get a good boot.

thanks for the advice. I have checked both memory sticks one at a time and no joy. Also, the processor and heatsink seem fine. Can anyone confirm that at the very least I should be able to get into the bios without other components such as hard drive and even ram? So long as I have power and a mother board should I not be able to get into bios?

Am going to order a new psu tomorrow to try that. Was thinking about the tagan u-15 easy config one with attachable cables. Let me know if this is a bad one.

    thanks again.

With out ram it will not boot to bios. It will do so with out any other perifs Now as for the psu, I don't think that is the problem. Did you check the capacitors on the mobo, are any of them puffey? this could be a cause as well. This usually leads to rebooting but I have seen bad caps do a bunch of weirdness.

Thanks for all the suggestions. However, after having left my system alone for a few days over xmas I thought I'd give it one last try before taking drastic measures and after displaying a 'check sum error - would i like to reset the bios' message, everything started working...strange. Never even nearly gave me that option before. Still, I keep my fingers crossed everytime I boot up and its continued to work.

If anyone can explain this it would help me sleep.

    Thanks

It could be time for a new Bios battery.

The battery should be ok - the mobo is a warranty replacement after my old one's chipset fried!
