Conduit Search, Yontoo etc.

I'm trying to help out a friend with their computer problems. He said his computer started slowing down and he was getting strange popups. I observed a few of these, Internet Explorer would just randomly start up and open up a Conduit search page. Conduit search is also set as the home page in Explorer. I'm also seeing something suspicious called Yontoo under add/remove programs that I was unable to uninstall.

I've finished the READ AND RUN ME FIRST section. Looks like some things were found, Hitman Pro in particular found a large number of items which I set to ignore as instructed.

    Here are the logs.

    Thanks!

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Thanks for the quick reply! :)

    Here is the JRT log.

Looks like he was using Microsoft Security Essentials for protection but I was unable to open it up and disable it. Kept getting an error pop up that access was denied. I also tried just uninstalling it and got the same/similar error message....maybe malware is mucking it up? Scan seemed to work fine though....hopefully everything went OK.

    Thanks,

Rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach those new logs.

Rerun RogueKiller and have it delete all that it found under Particular Files.

Then also rerun Hitman and have it delete all it found.

Reboot and rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach those new logs as well.

Be sure to tell me how things are running.

Seems like everything is working pretty good now. The conduit search and internet explorer problems seem to be all cleared up. I can also open Microsoft Security Essentials again. Once we are in the clear I plan on removing it and going with alternative antivirus and firewall options and applying the recommendations from the "How to Protect Yourself from Malware" thread. The tips there have kept me virus free for about three years now and hopefully they can help my friend out as well. :)

Here are the latest logs. Hitman came back clean and RogueKiller looks like it only found a couple of items now (one looks to be related to the changes Hitman made so I'm assuming false positive?). There is also a RK_Quarantine folder on the desktop (I think this was created during the very first RogueKiller scan). Do I need to do anything with this? Is it safe to just delete it?

Hopefully the computer is in the clear now and I can go about getting things organized and protected better.

Thank you so much for all of your help!!! :)

Rerun RogueKiller once more and under Particular Files, have it delete this:
    [ZeroAccess][File] @ : C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1166438895-2410787130-1231634353-1006\$d0c561948314a3d6dc548e1b0800a4a7\@ [-] --> FOUND

You can just delete the quarantine logs.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
