I am wondering why Adaware did not find Cool Web Search. In fact it does nto find anything, ever. I delete all cookies and temp files with CCleaner before running and then run Adaware SE fully updated.

I ean XCleaner and still was infected with Cool Web Searc, along with 2 other spyware, none of which Adaware found. Removed them, Restart, Xcleaner said I was clean. Downloaded MS Antispyware, ran it, came up clean. All were run in normal mode. Rebooted, ran all scans, clean again.

Does thie mean my machine is now clean of spyware??? What else should I do??? Am also running CCleaner consistanely now. Thanks

Generally, you need a good 2 or 3 antispyware programs. What one detects the others may or may not. I've ran Ad-aware, and Spybot on systems and have come up clean, then ran Spysweeper which found 300+ MORE traces of spyware. So in answer to your question, yes you're most likely clean, you've ran 3 good programs and have come up clean, (unless you notice any odd activity on your computer still). As for the CWS you may want to run CWShredder, there are MANY varients of CWS and just because ad-aware does'nt pick up some of them and another program does, only enforces the fact that you need 2 or 3. Good luck :D

To start the general cleanup process,

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

    [IMG] Download HijackThis 1.99.1

[IMG] Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

[IMG] Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

[IMG]Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

[IMG]Run HijackThis and save your log file.

[IMG] Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).
