I have Windows XP and IE 6.0 and I just successfully used it's Wizard to export my Favorite folders to a desktop file. What I'm confused about is: In exporting my IE Favorite folders, shouldn't everything be empty in the IE Favorites area? My Favorites folders were still in their regular place, even though they got exported to a desktop file. Also, I imported my Favorites back from my desktop file and I expected to see my IE Favorite folders doubled, however, my IE Favorites were not doubled and it looks as if nothing at all happened.

Exporting just makes a copy and doesn't erase your current favorites. Importing will overwrite equivalent entries.

Meaning that if you start to add more links to your Favorite folders and then import your exported Favorite folders back, then the imported Favorite folders will overwrite what you now have in your Favorite folders, thus erasing any new entries that you may have put in since you exported your Favorites folders?

Yes, importing should add any entries that are not currently in your favorites lists while pretty much disregarding entries that are already existing.

Also, if I eliminated all my folders in my Favorites area(which I guess I would have to do by deleting them, one by one :( ) and imported the exported files back to my Favorites, should my Favorite folders that were in my exported desktop file then show up in the IE Favorites area where I deleted all my IE Favorite folders?

To delete the favorites just go to C:\Documents and Settings\*user*\Favorites and just erase from there. It will be much quicker that way. Importing them should put them back into the Favorites folder the way they were prior to deletion (unless IE is screwy [IMG], which I can definitely vouch for!).
