Connection issues with SSID Broadcast off

SMC 2804 WBR router with SSID Brodcast off and WPA-PSK TKIP

802.11 g

XP PRO SP2 Dell Truemobile 1300 Wlan Mini PCI card

This combination has worked fine for several years

Now I have just purchased an HP Pavillion s7520n box with a GEMTEK 802.11 b/g USB card running under XP Media 2K2 SP2 ... no matter what I try, this combination will not work unless I turn the SSID broadcast on

MS apparently has a HOTFIX for KB907405 but it is not directly downloadable ... has anyone been able to determine either a solution for this issue and or know if it is XP or the Wireless device that is at fault?
