convert ppt to text

I am in school and I get notes from profs in powerpoint(ppt) format,
It would be nicer if I could have these notes in word format
is it possible to convert?
I can't even select-->cut/paste from Ppt to word

Open the ppt file, click on File then "save as". Rename the file to something else and save it as rtf. Word opens rtf files then you can save it again as a doc or docx file, I think.

I don't have any ppt files to do a run through and see if it works.
