I was just waking up and accidentally loaded this into XP and it works there too!:D It really only saves one click in total. It's not as if I go there 50 times a day.

Hmmmm... I tried, and it brings up the same 'System Properties' dialog that the 'Properties' option on 'My Computer's context menu.

OK, OK I'll never post again before the first cup of java!:D They are the equivalent menus, but no need for it in XP as 'properties' is the same as that little proggie gives. Now to restore XP.:D

Either I'm blocked, or the link is bad. Or 7-zip is giving me fits.

Actually, it opens the System Properties panel with the Computer Name tab selected, not the Advanced tab, right? I installed it and that's how it's working for me.

What wrong with Windows Key + Pause/break?

I got the general tab, but I was kinda thinking it would be the Advanced tab, when I first merged it.

I was going to say the same, Studiot! I love my windows key.

Its a good link. It doesnt directly link to the file, despite appearances.

Ya, Windows Live asks me for a password and that's about it.

This tweak takes you directly to Advanced System Settings, Win+Pause/Break only gets to System

Ok swings and roundabout and semantics and all that, but its a useful tweak to have if you goto Adv Sys Settings a fair bit, just saves the few exta clicks and gives you a further choice,

another option is to shortcut Sysdm.cpl in the Start Menu and create in its Properties menu a Shortcut Key, as there are not rights and wrongs in doing things just various routes.. all good in my book and cheers Adryn for this alternative.

@usafveteran ~ just a slightly different part as the Advanced Tab, is one of the tab menu options in Advanced System Settings, so using Adryns tweak your going to the main start tab as in Computer Name of Advanced System Settings which is correct.

It leads to the general tab on all the windows pcs I've ever tried it on, including Vista ones.

I'm not going to get embroiled in a silly argument about whcih is best. One of the strong points of Windows is that there are so many ways to do something. For instance you can shut down even if you have lost intelligible screen output from the keyboard.

Personally I find if I use to much mouse I get some form of RSI so I like to swop back and fore between keyboard and mouse to prevent this.

Oh and thanks for the idea I have noted it.

Well, as far as I am concerned, if you arent interested in this hack, then feel free to not use it. I didnt post it for you, I posted it for the people who dont feel like going through multiple steps to get to Advanced System Properties in Vista. Its just as easy to not comment on it, if its not for you. I am aware this tweak isnt for everyone.

Using Win+Pause/Break and then having to click on Advanced System Properties is no quicker than Going to Computer Properties with the mouse and then clicking Advanced System Properties. My tweak, is.

As for keyboard shortcuts...I can think of many that make my life easier. Win+Pause/break isnt one of them. While it was useful in XP, it still requires an extra step, with a mouse even in Vista. SO while you ask what is wrong with Win+ Pause/Break, well for one, it doesnt address what my tweak does.
