I'm a senior in high school who is about to leave home and head for college and will be switching to my laptop as my main computer. I've been using a desktop for awhile and am worried about the laptop over heating under too much stress. I'm a soon to be graphic design major so I'll be using this computer heavily. Do you have any tips on how to get my system to keep cool without losing any performance?

My laptop (Athlon64) has been left folding(100% load) for weeks with no trouble...
Keep the laptop on a smooth hard surface and you should have no real trouble either I would think

I've heard they do help shave off a few degrees, the couple that i've seen were powered off a usb port.

Keeping your laptop cool? (1) You can put something beneath the rear side of your laptop so that air can circulate. (2) Or you can buy a laptop tray, which helps cool laptop.

Either of this two method should keep your laptop cooler. But this does not help me, cuz i play games through my laptop. Im using a compaq with a pentium4 2.2ghz. My laptop heats up like crazy when programs that eat up lots of processes is running. And this was not the case until 1.5 years of using my laptop. I did almost everything. I opened up my computer, cleaned the fan, check the heat spreader, etc. But it didnt help. So right now im playing games, with a huge fan (the fan we use to cool ourselves) blowing right beneath my laptop =( i gotta get myself a new computer.

But yea, its better if you start doing either one of the two methods mentioned (prefferably the 2nd) so as to prevent your computer from increasing its chances to overheat, and overheat, and ....

I just got this EverCool NP-201 in the mail today and well, it works! it cooled me down from 56 degrees celcius to 50 in 20 minutes . . . haven't given it the long haul test yet but so far so good - it has great other features too like a 8 in 1 card reader and 3 usb ports in back . . . its also super light and i cant hear it running at all . . . so far so good from someone in the EXACT same position as you with my HOT laptop . . . for a few degrees cooler this thing works like a charm - found it for 32 bucks - anyway hope this helps . . . EverCool came out with a pretty $$ product IMO
