Copying text into a web page from Word

hello all, i just made a menu in microsoft word, it consists of a table with 3 columns and 100 -ish rows. the content is only text, but when i save it as a web page or import it into a dreamweaver document, the file size is around 300 kb. dreamweaver says something like:
the document you are trying to past is too large, try breaking it up into samller pieces and pasting them into new pages.
why is this document so big when really it shouild be quite small?
am i missing something here?
