Corrupted pics and vids

So, I has a bunch of pics and vids on my memory card on my phone. At some point in time some of them seem to have become corrupt. Really, all I can tell is that they wont open and extentions have been added.

As an example of the extentions, "IMAG0020.jpg" became "IMAG0020.jpg.0097bb36.menc". It's the same with vids, original filename plus a number, followed by menc. Now, some of them appear to have been duplicated somehow as well. I don't think that I did, I think the phone did for some reason.

Really, my only guess is that it has something to do with encryption. I had to have my phone replaced under warranty. My memory card was encrypted. I unencrypted it to do a hard reset (I was being instructed by a rep. to do a hard reset and he failed to warn me that doing a hard reset when the card is encrypted would loose me the contents of the card, so I unencrypted it in settings). I'm wondering if I needed to do more than simply uncheck the encryption option.

Really though, I don't have any idea. If you have any idea what happened, please let me know. To be honest, I'd rather know what happened than get the pics and vids back.

On that note, the reason I was getting the phone replaced was because, every now and then, I couldn't hear anything out of the earpiece. My guess was a loose wire... It SEEMED, though, that the reset I did right before I packaged it to send it in got it to work again. SEEMED. So, it kind of made me doubt my conclusion. However, I suppose I could have inadvertently applied pressure just right trying to get the back off that pushed a wire just right or something. I really wish I could have had time to figure out if it was a hardware problem like I originally thought or if it was a software problem like the rep. seemed to think. I assume he thought it was software related, considering the hard reset instruction...

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Thanks for any diagnostic help.

    Greetings, all...

Have you tried renaming the files, getting rid of the extraneous extensions? For example: rename "IMAG0020.jpg.0097bb36.menc" to "IMAG0020.jpg"...the fact that you are already seeing the ext. leads me to believe that you won't have to 'unhide' the extensions, but if you do need to do this, in Windows Explorer click Tools, Folder Options, View, and uncheck 'Hide file extensions for known file types'...

Let us know if that works - if so, there are batch renamers that will correct all of your file extensions...if not, we'll try a different tack...

Doubt I can help you much with the encryption...

One thing you might try, though, is run one of the files through a recovery software like Unstoppable Copier (I'd link to the Major Geeks download page, but it seems to be down at the moment)...I've had some success with corrupted files in the past with Unstop...
