    Hello -

I am running a desktop Dell Optiplex GX280. It had the delivered standard 512MB memory, and I've just recently upgraded to a 2MB memory.

When booting back up, my speakers did not work. I have reinstalled the sound card from the dell website information.

Ever since I am experiencing very poor CPU utilization, often peaking out at the most mundane of tasks. Video/audio is VERY poor to the point I can barely use it, even if other programs are closed.

I tried reinstalling the driver and this seemed to help but performance has degraded (or perhaps that is in my imagination).

Virus/malware checks have come up empty.

Here is some additional information about the system. Any advice?

Go to start / run and type dxdiag.exe to check for problems and run the diagnostic checks
And I would strongly recommend that you double check to make sure that everything is seated and plugged in properly.
