My PC is just crawling along. When I check the task manager, it shows CCAPP.EXE is consuming anywhere from 97 - 99% of the CPU. I know that this is associated with my Norton Internet Security package, but I don't think it should be soooo active. I have already been down the Malware forum and checked for viruses, spyware, etc.

Is there anyway I can tune this so the I can do something else on my PC.

Did they (the malware forum) give you a good bill of health?

Also, what version of NIS are ye running (as in version of the antivirus)?

    Is norton fully updated?

I do know that most will tell you just to remove norton, and use something free, but there may be another solution.

First question, what version of windows are ye running?

Malware folks said all was clear - at least from their perspective.

    NIS 2005 Version 8.2.0.32
    Norton AntiVirus Version 11.57
Virus Definitions Version 11/8/2006 Rev 24
Last Disk Scan on Friday, November 03, 2006 9:30:06 PM
    Realtime File Scanning On

It is fully updated, I just checked Live Update

Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

If you bring up taskmanager, what priority is it set at?

You should be able to set it at a lower priority, it will still run.

Priority is set to normal. Based on what you are saying, I should reduce the priority to below normal. Is that correct?

Personally I would uninstall all norton apps including quarantined, rebootl, run the norton removal tool, reboot, then reinstall.

I am no expert so forgive me if this is stupid. I am sure that the NIS app is named ccApp. Could the capital c and p (CCAPP) mean that it is not the Norton exe but a malware app?

    Ran PE, Path shown as:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe

Right now CCAPP is behaving and is not using any resources. I will check this again, but what is running now would appear to be legit.
