Crikey That Was A Close One

Just saw this while reading the news this morning

A man was in his boat fishing 2km (1.2 miles) offshore from Evans Head, New South Wales when a white pointer shark jumped into his 5.5m (18 feet) boat. Luckily he was able to climb up onto the side of the boat and call for help. When the rescuers arrived they found him still on the side of the boat covered in blood and bleeding from several lacerations on his arms.

Do people really say "crikey"?

 

They do over here but it is more used by country folk than city slickers
Steve Irwin brought it back into popularity although I remember when I was a kid in the 1960s my uncle, who was a dairy farmer, used it all the time
These days it is mostly used when you are surprised or amazed at something but in the past it was used in polite company instead of swearing

 

Wild story!
Several rivers here in Florida have problems with jumping sturgeon hitting boaters. The fish grow to a fair size and do cause havoc to those on the water. See here - even death!

I was going to say at least they don't have teeth but then I read a girl died which is really sad .....jeez up to 8 feet long and can jump up to 7 feet out of the water now that has gotta hurt if it hits you

 

Like joffa said, back in the sixties my Dad also used the word quite often.
It's a euphemism for Christ.
