Anyone have a clue as to how to select or crop a section of a video in MS movie maker?

Windows Movie Maker? Nah, find it a load of $**#$!!!!

If you mean cropping as in chopping off the sides:

It's rather easy to do in VirtualDub:
So open up your video. Go to Video> Filters, and click Add, then select the Null Transform. Now in the Filters window, look on the right side, you'll see "Cropping." Click that and you can set it, experiment with different numbers until you get the piece you want..

Also don't forget to set the compression or you'll get a huge uncompressed fiiles.

    Hmmm... what happens?

Did you go Video>Full Processing Mode? I forgot to mention that 'cause I'm a dope.

It is set to that.....then when I hit filters...and the Null Transform ..then crop...I can crop it but once cropped the only options are ok or cancel.....Ok takes me back to original video unchanged.

Did you put numbers into X1 offset etc?

I circled them to make easier to see

Also, make sure you have View> Output Pane checked. the right side will be the saved video looks like.

Yes Aimee...that option is check and you dont need to use the numbers...you can just drag the pane to crop....but again, if you check the info help on the program it states that null transform does nothing.

Guess I need to do some searching for something that actually works. :(

Amiee...I asked you nicely in the lounge today to please not link off site for programs we have here at MG's. I know you read the post b/c I saw you do so. This is the last time you get a friendly reminder.

    Thank you.:)

MajorGeeks was established as a safe website with access to thousands of downloads. The forum is an off-shoot of that. By linking outside of the MajorGeeks domain for downloads that are available here, it hurts the site and loses funds that are generated through advertising in order to keep this site operational. Additionally, as a user of this website it is the polite thing to do by giving back all that is freely given to you.:)

Open Help and choose the Index tab in the left panel
Scroll down the list to Editing Clips
Click it and then click display button below the index list
