I have AVG, Spyware Doctor, Windows XP Pro Firewall, SpywareGuard, AD Aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, CC Cleaner, HiJack This, and ewido.net all checking my system and they find nothing more than the occassional ad cookie. I recently ran the MWAV (MicroWorld AV) on my system to see if it was any good and it states that it finds cws.LoadAdv.400 Browser Hijacker, cws.smartsearch Browser Hijacker and 2 un-named Trojans all in the file system.

Is MWAV from eScan that good and I should buy it so I can remove them or or if its not being picked up on by Hijack this and the other programs, its a false positive?

Hi Maynard. You have a lot of tools there.

There is no need to go and buy anything, I've not come accross anything that cannot be removed using the free tools we recommend.

We have a few standard step thats i'd like you to follow first

<!-- I've just looked at your past posts and have seen that you have had an infection in the past. The steps have probably changed since then so please take care to follow them as they are now. :) -->

    - Please run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

    Bitdefender
    Panda Scan
    HijackThis

    Good Luck!:)

Recently -- I have seen a slew of scanners hit false positives for CWS. Mainly it is people that have installed Spyware Blaster and are running the blocking for CWS sites. The lower end scanners see the word "coolwebsearch" in the registry and hit as a postive....when it is actually a block.
