Every now and then I get a popup message stating that DEP has prevented a program from running and is shutting it down to prevent viruses. The program is windows explorer. I've scanned for viruses and spyware but nothing comes up. How can I find out what triggered DEP protection? It usually occurs when I click on the "my computer" icon

    I'm running WinXP.

    Any advice?

    Hi.:wave
if you wish to turn off/on Data Execution program.
right click on the my computer ICON.
    go to advanced.
then where it has performance stuff go settings.
you will see Data Execution prevention on the end tab.
there are setting that you can choose.

    Thanks

How about why its occuring? I'm a bit hesitant to turn it off if it is trying to protect Windows. Is there any way that i can investigate the problem and whats causing winexplorer to trigger DEP?

    Thanks in advance
