Data recovery from mechanically damaged drives

Hi, I looking for some advice and information regarding the recovery of data from mechanically damaged hard drives. Any help would be really appreciated.

 

Have you tried booting from a live CD ? There are a bunch of options for live CD's. Once you get into live CD, if your drives spin and can be read you should be able to save your data. I expect there are more advanced answers, but that is what I'd try first.

You might try a little app named Unstoppable Copier, but as radiot mentioned, the drive must be partially accessible...

There are, of course, dedicated recovery labs available that can disassemble the drive to platter level - I have used Ontrack before, and they were able to extract a local bank's records from a burned machine...be advised, however: data recovery such as this can be quite expensive...

When you say "Mechanically Damaged" what is the damage?

 

Rosway, I second OldPhil, what are the details? Caliban is right too, people specialize in retrieving data, but bring your money.

Is it a drive w/ OS and data? Data only? One could also put damaged drive as secondary drive iin a computer and see if drive is recognized and if data is accessible.
