    Hi foks, I'm new to this particular forum, and Im new to being thwarted by malware. Alas, it has happened though, or so I'm lead to believe. Now while I'm a smart enough monkey to push the update button on MBAM and AVG everynow and again and even at recovering the system and cleaning out alot of my infections both auto, and manual. But i've got a problem with my DCOM Server Launcher that has me beside myself. I'm uber interested in your opinion about it, so please feel free to read my story and my logs and throw me an umbrella, cuz it's raining on my electric parade. :( ~scott

    Ok, so a while back (month maybe) google page links started redirecting to benign, but fake, looking shopping and search sites. I'm not sure what i was doing at the time exactly, watching innapropriate porn, bootlegging jibjab videos, im not sure. Either way that problem was survivable since malwarebytes avg and spybot s&d failed to find anything and i could still copy the links. Well then i got office 07. That's when i found out .NETframework wasnt up to date. the update wouldnt load. so i downloaded a tool and stripped it completely, and reinstalled it fresh with updates from windows update. I suddenly start getting messages that the DCOM Server Launcher Service is failing and the windows NTAuthority needs to shut windows down. I ran the command 'shutdown -a' to stop the clock. Then I used my windows CD to run chkdsk on all drives with the /r 'fix errors' modifier. Then i ran defragmenter on both drives. I updated all spyware and av software on my machine and ran new scans. Nothing and stilll a problem. So i cam here and went through Read & Run Me First. Everything ran like clockwork except Root Repeal. That software simply cause the computer to start over with no shutdown and no warning every time i ran it no matter what esle was or wasnt running. When i ran mgtools i noticed a file missing in a list of files it checks for at the beginning that are system files, but it's still greek. I have attached all the logs i have. Im getting ready to save my online game files to a disk and reinstall the computer but there's so much to lose here. I'm at my wits end and have functionally been without my computer, and my pillow, for about a week now. It's making me crazy, any help at all would be extremely appreciated. Thanks for looking and OMG i hope you can help me.
    Oh and in the first run SAS found these two viruses, but other than that everything else was normal looking.

    This may help with your redirection problem when browsing, however I get the sense that you may have to visit the software forums for any other remaining issues. Do the below and let me know if the redirection persists!

    1. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\TMP0001.TMP

    Fcopy::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ReinstallBackups\0004\DriverFiles\i386\atapi.sys | C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\atapi.sys

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Also let's do this:

    2. Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

    3. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix. and TDSSKiller.

    4. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Thank you for getting to my issue so quickly. I had seen this removal tool on one other post but wasnt sure i should just go running removal tools without knowing what they did :p i have run the tools and the redirect issue appears to have cleared. There were was an anomalous error while running combofix but it moved to fast to read it. i have attached the logs and I am still having the dcom server launcher process problem. should i take all this and pack it into a post to the software forums? and im new to MG so if you could just answer that like im 5 years old that would be really awesome :p thanks again for your help. YOu were really fast at getting back to me.

    Your logs are malware free. :) You do however need to tidy up your desktop:

    I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here.

    Yes, do visit the software forum for the other problems you are having.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
