not well up on debian, but isn't it in synaptic ?

    search for flash-player-plugin and java-1.6.0-sun

or alternatively you can get flash from adobe

    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you do not have synaptic, type
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install synaptic
Ubuntu calls Adobe Flash ubuntu-restricted-extras in 32 bit and flashplugin-installer in 64 bit.

To find if you have installed 32 bit or 64 bit type
    Code:
    uname-a
    Then for 32 bit
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
    or for 64 bit
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer
Ubuntu Man page for Restricted Extras.

    Debian man page for flash

This page may help as well.

E: Unable to locate package flashplugin-installer.This is the output from bash

I am sorry, I missed you are using Squeeze.
Debian Squeeze should have flashplugin in the multimedia repo (may need to enable with Software Sources) DO NOT ENABLE BACKPORTS

    http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/flashplugin-nonfree

Perhaps symbolic link to flashplayer is off somewhere....

    Code:
    sudo locate libflashplayer.so
I am using Linux Mint Debian Edition 64 bit and have Flash 11 installed per this page.

I've been trying the synaptic pkg manager. My eyes are burnt out reading help files . Have a good idea how it works but cannot catch FTP files from there. I'll read it again must have missed something. I tried your link to adobe 11 . Not surprised it would not kick for me as using 32bit .

. I know I'm just a line away from getting it sorted .

I have read the Red hat book ( 1300) pages also Mike McGrath's Linux in easy steps,

So much I can do .
Gutted to fall down at this fence

:) :) :)I am very thankful for your patience and kindness

    Open a terminal and type
    Code:
    sudo synaptic
    Click on Settings then Repositories
(I don't run squeeze so i can only gice an example of a repo I'm using)
It says deb then http://ftp.us.debian.org distribution says oldstable (yours probably says squeeze)
    sections: main non-free contrib

Make sure there is a checkmark in only one repository.
Click ok at the bottom to close the repositories box.
You will get a warning which you can ignore (it simply tells you that you've made changes)
Click the reload button and wait while the packages load.

Eventually you can scroll through and click what you want. Synaptic takes care of dependencies so if it tells you you need other packages allow it. When done looking, click the apply icon. You will see how many packages will be installed and how much space. If you agree, click Apply.

ok, just installed debian squeeze so here goes,

    system > administration > synaptic

add your root password to the prompt

    once synaptic has loaded

settings > repositories > debian software tab

check the 2 repositories in the middle (contrib and non free)

click 'close' and 'close' at the prompt

    now click 'reload'

    click 'search' (not quick search)

    type flash in the box,

when its finished, scroll down for flashplugin-nonfree and check the box,
    mark for installation

    do the same for sun-java6-jre,
click 'mark' for the extra dependencies

click 'apply' and 'apply' at the prompt

    once downloaded and installing,
accept the sun agreement and click 'forward'

    click 'close' to complete

have you set your repo's ?

it seems its trying to access the packages from a cd/dvd

if you have set a repo address then try changing to a different mirror, you may have a bad mirror
    i'm using http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian

synaptic > settings > repositories > debian software tab > download from > other

    then just choose another

you could also try unchecking cdrom

synaptic > settings > repositories > third party software tab

If you running Debian, you don't want or need to take it off the net. You want to get it from the Debian repos. Please tell us if you tried (as root):

    apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

And tell us what happens. If you get no errors, it will have installed correctly. Then running:

    update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv

Should update you to the lastest flash. :major

The above was sent to me by another webber.. IT WORKS...

With correlation of a few people not the least here... All is resolved for now .. Many thanks:)
