I've been told that I need a new motherboard for my dell inspiron 8600.
However, there seems to be to types of motherboard, one X1070 and G2515.
I've been told by sellers that they both will work for my laptop. Can someone please confirm that this is true, or they just trying to sell me something.

I will appreciate any feedback on this matter.

    Thank you,

    Sankyo

This is the Dell refurbished replacement motherboard w\ service kit. (Dell Part# : P5665) Cost is $390.95. This includes:
    Dell PN: F5236 ASSY,PWA,PLN,MN,8600,CR
    Dell PN: M1704 KIT,CDSK,BIOS,SVC,DELL,PORT
    [IMG]http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=P5665

This is the replacement parts you posted:
X1070 Assembly, PWA, Planar (Motherboard), Main, 8600
    Which is: Dell PN: F5236
Does Not Include Video Card, Processor, or Memory
    G2515 Motherboard Service Kit, I8600
    Which is: Dell PN: M1704
I can't get it to break down any better. When you google the part #'s (X1070 and G2515), there are ebay photos of both and they look almost the same. That doesn't make sense if one is a service kit and one is the main mobo. If the Dell price is close to what you've been qouted, I would go for it.

@ ASUS or Viperboy403, How about some help here?

After talking to another source, this was brought up:
"Who told you that you need a new motherboard?
    "
Is there a specific problem that is occuring? If there is, you might want to start a new thread stating those probs and get some more advice. That is a lot of money to invest without being sure.

    (Thanks, Matacumbie);)

    Nearly $400 US?

Thats waaaay tooooo much for a replacement motherboard.

You should be paying around $75 from Ebay. Just a little patience.

    Sounds like he knows.;)
The MoBo only (X1070) is $169 (starting bid) on ebay right now.
Actually, I wouldn't. (I was half asleep when I wrote that.) :tired My refurbished Dell tower was only $249 a year and 1/2 ago.

Good question. Why are you replacing the motherboard?

Dell direct spares being overpriced there are quite a few suppliers in the UK for Dell spares, second hand or end of range or from damaged stock. You shoould be able to find an 8600 with a broken screen quite cheaply.
I expect to pay £30 - £60 sterling for a motherboard. That makes for an economic repair.

Type dell motherboards into Ebay or watch

Interestingly the postman has just brought the latest Dell flogsheet.

Brand spanking new Inspirons range from £250 to £400. Including Windows Vista.
Normally you pay the same numbers, but in dollars in the States.

I paid $15 to get it checked by a dell distributor and was told that themotherboard needed to be replaced. However, I was told that everything else was working perfectly (hard drive, cpu, memory, etc)

However, they quoted a ridiculous price of $750 for the part. I talked personally to the guy who checked it and told me to find it on internet for about $200-300

You would have to switch your parts (CPU, video card, etc.) to it. I would still start a thread describing your prob with it and see what the guys here have to say before plopping down the money.;)

I'm pretty sure that is not a 8600c.
When I put my service tag, it only saids Inspiron 8600
Is there anywhere else that I should look to be 100% certain

    Thanks alot

Yes when I put your service tag # in, it came up with this Dell part #, which matches the MoBo # you gave in your first post. Dell PN: F5236
Which is: X1070 Assembly, PWA, Planar (Motherboard), Main, 8600
Does Not Include Video Card, Processor, or Memory
    You should be OK.
