    xp sp2
dell dimension 4550 motherboard dell dimensin 4550
I have seen this problem on other forums and answers differ.
    When reformatting/reloading xp,
    drivers dont show up
    for 'other devices'
    ethernet controller
    multimedia audio controller
    pci input device.

    everestreport says
intel pro 100 ve network connection
    pcwizard says
    intel 82801 DB/DBL pro/100 ve network connection
I do have 4 modules from Dell site for this model
    1) chipset
    2) broadcom diagnostic
    3) broadcom driver
    4) intel driver
On other forums people have said the darn things dont
work. They self extract into their own folders.

    Any help would be appreciated
    Thankyou
    Danny

    Hi Danny,
your machine should have a service tag, you need use this when getting drivers for that machine as the tag will give you the correct ones, each tag is unique to each machine.

    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I would also upgrade your OS to sp3.

When I called Dell I checked all six sides of the box.
No service tag. That is why I used model route to
pick modules to download. I plan on sp3 upgrade
    when internet connection is established.

    Hi Danny,
Please download and save speccy to a cd/dvd or usb flashdrive and install on your machine and post the log it creates about your system, this should point us in the right direction as to what hardware is on your systems board and what type of driver is needed.

    Hi

If you follow the below in the order written and see how you get on

Install the Chipset driver from HERE and reboot, important to reboot.

Then install the Intel 10/100 driver HERE and reboot again.

For Audio you need to install the UAA HD Audio driver HERE then reboot and install the Audio driver from Dell HERE, reboot again

Your VGA or Video card drivers are HERE

Then tell us what devices have in Device Manager yellow ! marks by them.

Then please attach the Everest log as listed below as some devices are not being picked up by Speccy, its good as an app for Visat Win7 but Everest is still very good for XP. As the PCI Input device and "other" are likely the Communication Fax/modem which there are alot of models to choose from and everest mey help narroe them down a bit.

You could also on the Dell Support page use the Find my Service Tag option and it will scan your PC and may find the tag code.

You know the Dell site instructs
me to click on module (extract)
then use run command with path
created in extract process to a
setup exe. should I be doing this
for each dell module? yellow warnings are
    still there.
    thanks

Much obliged to this forum and you Iain.
My roommate, a 72 year old Puerto Rican
grandmother blesses you. Its her machine
and she loves her scrabble. Now perhaps
she can slack off on the Santeria and
    chicken feathers.

    Hi Danny,
Your welcome!!!;), any more issues just create a new thread and I'm sure the good folk on here will be more than willing to offer their assistance.
When you have the machine up and running smoothely, you may want to create an image of the drive so as not to run into these issues again as chasing drivers can be a bit af a pain in the **se ;) .I would suggest that you use this free utility.....

    http://majorgeeks.com/Macrium_Reflect_FREE_Edition_d6034.html

use this to create the image of your HDD to DVD discs, then if any issues arrise where your system becomes too corrupt you can use that image to restore it to a working enviroment again.

@ your 'Roomy'...... cuidar y Dios los bendiga.

    Hi

As you have SP2 for XP then you need the UAA HD Audio driver I posted a link to earlier to be installed before the Dell Audio driver, thats if you didnt follow the links in the order I posted earlier.
