    Hello
I have a Desktop PC it's a Dell Dimension 4700 This morning I come over to theres a black screen with the message "A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart"

Of course I hit con+alt+del and PC restarts with same message..

At that time I plugged in another HD to the Dell and it fired up perfect. I took the potential bad HD and stuck it in another slave on another PC (a Pavilion HP) and I get the message error reading disk. I can safely assume this HD is gone.

Is there a way to hook the HD to another slave and boot to a good HD and download a hard drive fixer program and then select the HD to fix? Any help fixing or recovering the data from the bad HD would be most greatly appreciated
    Regards

You can try Roadkil's Raw Copy to get the data off of the bad drive.

    Thanks for the reply

1.) When I put the bad HD on a different slave and try to boot to the good HD it tells me the good HD has an error to restart.

2.) I take the Bad HD out and the good HD fires up.

3.) I put the Bad HD in a different PC and the Bad HD makes a clicking noise and never boots. Just a black screen no errors.

Looks like I'm running out of options..

Ok, it looks like the problem now goes beyond the Hard Drive...

1.) On the Dell 4700 as stated above the Hard Drive stopped working.

2.) After taking the old Hard Drive out of the Dell 4700 I replaced it with a working Hard Drive and the Dell 4700 fired up fine.

    3.) All Lights A B C D were GREEN

4.) I then took the Bad Hard Drive and stuck it in a HP Pavilion a720n desktop PC on a second slave.. It stated there was a drive error and I should insert the master CD.

5.) I rebooted the HP Pavilion a720n with the Master CD (w/ Bad Hard drive). It asked if I wanted to repair or reinstall windows. I selected reinstall, the install started for 1 second and said no Hard Drive Found.

6.) I then stuck the Bad Hard Drive back in the Dell 4700 and the Hard Drive made a not so normal grinding noise and the screen simply stayed BLACK w/ no messages. The A B C lights were GREEN and the D light was AMBER...

7.) After looking up the Light Codes from Dell (see image below) it said to unplug the Hard Drive cables and power back on (do this 2 times then plug back in Hard drive). NO CHANGE!

8.) I then too the button cell out for 8 min to see if that helped and no, it did nothing.

9.) I then took out the Bad Hard Drive from the Dell 4700 and put the Good Hard Drive in and same thing, boots to black screen with A B C light GREEN and the D Light is AMBER

10.) Keep in mind the Good Hard Drive "Worked" in the Dell 4700 yesterday, now it does not. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Good Hard Drive many times and same result, Black screen with nothing there..

11.) I put the Good Hard Drive in the HP Pavilion a720n and it booted up fine.

12.) At this time, I have unplugged every cable and wire inside the Dell 4700 to assure the seating of everything was good. Still, same results..

13.) This is what leaves me to believe that yes, the Hard Drive from the Dell 4700 is surely a BAD Hard Drive

14.) It also leads me to think that there's another problem beyond the Hard Dive with the Dell 4700 as the confirmed Good Hard Drive no longer boots up in the Dell 4700 and it did yesterday..

I found a new replacement hard drive for the Dell 4700 for $22.00 however, I'm in fear if I buy it it's not going to work as the Good Hard Drive does not work in the Dell 4700 so why would a new one..

At this point I am Super-Lost :banghead

    Any suggestions?
    Thank You
