Yet another useless product from Dell.

My ''at' (same key as 2) on the keyboard shows up as a quote mark when I try to sign in at different sites that ask for my email address. The quote mark shows up as @.

This is ridiculous and renders the keyboard useless.

As Dell can't help me (even if I could acess them) what do you suggest I do?

    Thanks.

Change your keyboard settings to match; it reads like you have a US keyboard but UK settings.

It doesn't render anything useless, just makes you think a little more ;)

I use quotes all the time and I type at 120 words a minute. The error slows me right down to maybe 20 words a minute. A killer.

Oh, how I wish I could. It offers me no options to change anything. Location Canada, Language English UK. I am unable to scroll down on any list.

One of Dell's set up errors? Very few options are offered.

    Which Windows version?

This sounds like a common OEM trick of removing all "unnecessary" files. You may have to look at installing a language pack, although if I am right this is only possible in windows 7 professional.

Vista. I also installed MS Office 2010 Home and Student.

Hmm, I don't have Vista to check - Control Panel > Keyboard or Languages? It might be somewhere hidden under advanced in one of the tabs.

Under Keyboards and Languages Select Change keyboards. Then Add button. Find English (US) and add it. Then go back to the drop down box and select English (US) which should now appear. Then hit Apply.

With Dell it isn't that simple. There are no scroll down options.

Testing those keys - " @ Still showing the wrong symbols. &%* work, but number sign appears as £ . ^() += okay. Colon appears as ~ backslash appears as # !%<>,? okay.

Do I wipe the comptuer clean and start again? This is the most frustraing computer I have ever used -- and I started out with the very basic first IBM ever made.

Ah, I wonder if this did the trick?

Moved UK English to below US. "@ nope, didn't change anything.

Okay, by removing UK English competely, I think it worked.

Testing: @"|#$%_-:;\ I think it worked!

Many thanks for the help. It was a long way around because Dell does not make this simple. It isn't a computer I would recommend to anyone.

Sorry, Dell, but I speak as I find.

This and your other problem today, are nothing at all to do with Dell - purely MSFT Windows and the way it's setup on first install or during subsequent 'tweaking'.

Thank you all for your help.

You're right, it had nothing to do with Dell. Turns out the OS wasn't installed properly. I took it back to the shop and they reinstalled. Just got it back but I'm sure everything will work fine now. If not, I'll be back.

It sorted itself out for a couple of days but it's back again. My keyboard shows 'at' as ". On documents, I have to go in and highlight, then do a Search and Replace.

I do not want to use US English, I want UK English, but why won't Dell or Office 2010 allow me to make that change permanent on all documents and emails? Are they forcing me to use US English?

Oh, a ? turned up but a " represents 'at'.
