My Dell XPS laptop has a defective wireless card. OEM was Intel Centrino 6320. I believe it was replaced under Dell warranty with an Intel Centrino 6205 card. My research shows both cards were problematic with continuous losing the WAN/LAN connection. I finally pulled the card and installed a broadcom card from another Dell laptop. Intel has discontinued the 6205 I found out. How do I determine what card would be newer and an improvement over the 6320 or the 6205? It is a mini half size card, PCI-E.
    Thanks

Yes 6230 was original card. I was at work and guessing card number. I discovered incorrect card when trying to restore lappy back to original Win 7 from screwed up Win 10 upgrade. But anyway, it seems a lot of people were having difficulties with frequent disconnects from the internet with OEM card. I suspect this laptop was no different as the card installed was a Centrino 6205 with a Dell part sticker on it. This card also suffered the same issues. Intel could not resolve the issue for many consumers, and ended up discontinuing the cards. I borrowed another card from another older Dell laptop that works just fine, but I want to put a newer card in this laptop and put the other one back in service.
But the bottom line is I need a newer compatible card to put into this XPS 14Z machine.

If the other (Broadcom) card works just fine in that machine it sounds like you could save time by just buying a new one of those cards.

I am looking for a card that would be an upgrade to the original, not a step (or 3) backwards.

So the current card you are using doesn't perform well, and with visible symptoms to show that?
In that case yes, search for something better and I am sure Dell Support will make some suggestions based on that system.

Depends on your internet. In the past few years, a lot has changed. For one example, A lot of routers are now capable of dual band and your card might not be. You can easily find something better by reading reviews on a site like TigerDirect. You could also use a USB version, my personal preference. I use http://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear...lack/8860004.p?id=1219375117547&skuId=8860004 for years, can be bought at most Best Buy stores.
